Melbourne’s new dining app EatClub co-founded by Marco Pierre White
Co-founded by White, Matt Cantelo, Ben Tyler and Pan Koutlakis, the app aims to give restaurants more control over demand for their tables, helping them fill empty seats and increase their profits.
Unlike traditional pre-scheduled deals platforms, EatClub is a “live” platform that gives restaurants the flexibility to push out deals in real time from their smartphone. For example, if a restaurant is experiencing a quiet period, they can push out a 40 per cent off deal for five tables, and can set a time when the customers must be in the restaurant.
“Hotels and airlines have been using dynamic pricing for years – it’s time restaurants had that opportunity,” said White.
When a user opens the EatClub app, they are shown nearby restaurants that have uploaded live deals on a map. Once a customer redeems a deal it disappears from the map, so it’s first in, best dressed.
Co-founder Pan Koutlakis said while current technology trends in the hospitality space are driving customers away from dining out, EatClub aims to bring them back.
“Although I was involved in pushing the giant shift towards delivery during my time as Melbourne CEO at foodora, there is something very special about eating out at a great restaurant; the atmosphere, the way we interact with each other and of course fresh delicious food enjoyed straight from the kitchen to your plate,” he said.
Melbourne restaurants already on the app include +39 Pizzeria, Meatball and Wine Bar, Papa Goose, Babu Ji and Cochin, as well as local favourites Machi Japanese, Ben’s Supernatural and Xeom Viet Street Food.
